Street parking in the Kaunas Old Town zone costs €2.00 an hour, around the clock, every day. The cheaper options nearby are the green zone (€0.50 an hour, charged only on weekdays from 08:00 to 18:00) and free street parking across the Vytautas the Great Bridge on Marvelės street. Driving into the Old Town also costs a separate €2 reduced-pollution fee, which includes your first hour of parking. You can pay with the Unipark, ParkMan or carOne app, by SMS to 1332, or at a street meter.
Street parking in Kaunas is run by the city company Parkavimas Kaune. The city is divided into colour-coded zones. Each zone has its own price and charging hours, and the price rises towards the centre. This guide lists the 2026 rates, how to pay as a visitor, when parking is free, and the nearest spaces to each of our three stays. All rates below come from the operator's official pages, checked in October 2026.
Kaunas parking zones and prices (2026)
The table shows the zones a visitor to the centre is likely to meet. Outside the charging hours, parking in that zone is free. The operator charges no fee in any zone on public holidays or on Kaunas City Day.

Two rules are useful to know. First, a ticket bought for a more expensive zone also covers the cheaper ones: a yellow-zone ticket is valid in the red, blue and green zones, and a red-zone ticket in the blue and green zones. An Old Town ticket, however, is valid only in the Old Town. Second, paid time cannot be moved: if you drive to another zone, you start a new payment.
Since 20 May 2026, Town Hall Square (Rotušės aikštė) and the streets leading to it belong to the Old Town zone. The temporary orange zone that applied there before no longer exists. Zone boundaries for any address are shown on the operator's interactive map at parkavimaskaune.lt, and every paid street has signs and meters.
The €2 Old Town reduced-pollution fee
Since 1 August 2024, Kaunas Old Town has been a reduced-pollution zone (Sumažintos taršos zona). It covers the area at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers, bounded by Šv. Gertrūdos street (from Kaunas Castle to Gimnazijos street), Gimnazijos street, Birštono street and Karaliaus Mindaugo avenue. Number-plate recognition points at the entrances record every car, and electronic boards reading "Mokama zona 2 Eur" warn drivers before they enter.
- Price: €2 per trip through the zone.
- What it includes: the first hour of parking in the Old Town zone. If you stay longer, you pay the normal €2.00 an hour from the second hour.
- How to pay: in the carOne or Unipark app, or on parkavimaskaune.lt, where you enter the number plate to see any amount due.
- Deadline: 7 calendar days. Unpaid trips are passed to the city's public order department, which can issue a fine.
- Exempt: fully electric cars, holders of a disabled parking card, residents and property owners in the zone, and special services.
For our guests this matters at two stays. Picturesque Old Town Apartment on M. Valančiaus street is inside the zone. Old Town Pearl Suite stands on Šv. Gertrūdos street, the zone's eastern edge. If you are unsure whether your route was recorded, check your plate on parkavimaskaune.lt within the 7 days. Underground Kingdom Boutique on Savanorių avenue is outside the zone.
How to pay for parking in Kaunas
Pay as soon as you park. The operator accepts four methods:
- Unipark or ParkMan app (iOS and Android, free to download). Enter your plate, choose the zone, start the session and stop it when you leave. Both charge in 12-minute steps, so you pay for the time you actually use. A small app service fee is added; Unipark shows the amount in the zone description. The operator's FAQ also lists the carOne app.
- SMS to 1332. To start, send U Start KS ABC123, where KS is the zone code and ABC123 is your plate without spaces. To stop, send U Stop ABC123. Zone codes: KS Old Town, KG yellow, KR red, KM blue, KZ green, KMS blue S. Unipark adds a €0.30 SMS service fee, and your mobile operator may charge for the messages. Wait for the confirmation SMS before you walk away.
- Street meter with a bank card. Meters fitted with a contactless reader accept bank cards and print a parking ticket.
- Street meter with coins. Meters accept 10, 20 and 50 cent and 1 and 2 euro coins and give no change.
The m.Parking app has not worked in Kaunas since 1 January 2025. The separate "Parkavimas Kaune" app shows free and occupied spaces in real time, which helps when you are looking for a space in the centre.
Free parking in Kaunas: when and where
- Green zone outside working hours. It is free on weekdays from 18:00 to 08:00 and from Friday 18:00 until Monday 08:00. A car left there on Friday evening costs nothing until Monday morning.
- Yellow, red and blue zones at night. They are free from 20:00 to 08:00.
- Public holidays and Kaunas City Day. No zone charges on these days.
- Marvelės street, across the Vytautas the Great Bridge. It lies outside every paid zone. The walk back over the bridge to the Old Town takes 10–15 minutes.
The Old Town zone itself is never free on a normal day. If you are staying several nights inside the Old Town, the bridge option or a cheaper zone nearby will save a noticeable amount.
Parking near our three stays
We checked these spaces against the city's official zone map. Each stay page has the same details with walking directions.
Underground Kingdom Boutique — Savanorių pr. 1
The nearest green-zone spaces are on Šv. Gertrūdos street (216 m) and Gimnazijos street (260 m), a 3–4 minute walk. The green zone costs €0.50 an hour on weekdays from 08:00 to 18:00, so a whole working day costs at most €5. Evenings, nights and weekends are free. A blue-zone section on Šv. Gertrūdos street (224 m) costs €1.00 an hour from 08:00 to 20:00, every day. The hotel is outside the reduced-pollution zone. Details: Underground Kingdom Boutique.

Picturesque Old Town Apartment — M. Valančiaus g. 12
You can park at the door, in the Old Town zone, for €2.00 an hour around the clock. The blue zone begins 169 m up the same street: €1.00 an hour, charged only from 08:00 to 20:00, so the night is free. To pay nothing, park on Marvelės street across the Vytautas the Great Bridge and walk back in 10–15 minutes. The apartment is inside the reduced-pollution zone, so expect the €2 trip fee. Details: Picturesque Old Town Apartment.

Old Town Pearl Suite — Šv. Gertrūdos g. 51A
The street by the building is in the Old Town zone, at €2.00 an hour, every day and night. The free alternative is again Marvelės street across the Vytautas the Great Bridge, 12–15 minutes on foot. Details: Old Town Pearl Suite.

Unpaid parking: notices and fines
If you park without paying, an inspector records the car and leaves a notice. You can settle it within 30 calendar days by paying a set fee, whatever the length of the stay:
| Zone | Fee on the notice |
|---|---|
| Green, blue, blue S | €10 |
| Red | €15 |
| Yellow | €25 |
| Old Town | €32 |
You can pay by bank transfer, quoting the notice number and the plate, online through Paysera, at Perlas terminals and Maxima checkouts by scanning the barcode, or at any parking meter in Kaunas. If the fee is not paid in time, the photos go to the municipality's public order department, and the vehicle's keeper receives a fine by registered letter. A broken meter does not cancel the duty to pay: use the next meter in the same zone or an app.
A disabled parking card gives an exemption only if it is the European-model card, placed so that its number and validity date can be read through the windscreen.
Electric cars
Fully electric cars do not pay the €2 Old Town reduced-pollution fee. Parkavimas Kaune also issues a free permit for fully electric cars that removes the parking fee in the yellow, red, blue and green zones. You must apply for it with the vehicle registration certificate, and hybrids are not eligible. The Old Town zone is not on that list. Whether a car registered abroad qualifies is not stated, so ask the operator before relying on it.
Practical tips
- Start the app session or SMS before you leave the car, and stop it when you return. Paid time ends at the time shown; if you are delayed, extend or leave.
- For a stay of several days, compare the bridge option, the green zone near Underground Kingdom, and the multi-storey car park at K. Donelaičio g. 65A (€1.20 an hour by day, €0.60 by night).
- Arriving by plane rather than car? See our guide from Kaunas Airport to the Old Town. Planning the weekend itself? Try 48 hours in Kaunas Old Town.
Rates, hours and fees are October 2026 data from Parkavimas Kaune (parkavimaskaune.lt). They can change, so check the sign and the meter on the street before you pay.
